Did you know that transportation is Australia's fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions?
"The Melbourne–Sydney route is the most popular domestic route, carrying more than 6.62 million passengers in the year ending June 2007, an increase of 6.2 per cent on the previous year. (BITRE Aviation Statistics - Australian Domestic Airline Activity, 2006-07)
A one-way Melbourne–Sydney flight emits about 125kg CO2-e per passenger, however, because this is released at high altitude the emissions have an impact equivalent to releasing 245kg CO2-e at ground level. (Greenfleet Tree Totaller calculations) So, passengers flying between Melbourne and Sydney created the equivalent of more than 1.6 million tonnes of CO2-e in the year ending June 2007."
Please Note: This only highlights the one flight route. Think about all the other domestic flight routes, international flight routes out-of-and-into Australia, and all the cars, motorcycles and trucks on the roads, which all emit greenhouse gases.
Whenever you use the Greenfleet Meeting Centre for your online meetings**, the amount of time is tracked for you and your organisation as a whole. At month's end, Greenfleet and Genesys will email you a detailed report that outlines (for both you as an individual and for your company as a whole) the following: - How many minutes have been used- Quantity of CO2 emissions avoided by using the Greenfleet Meeting Centre- The amount of people that have been forwarded the Carbon Reduction email (which leads to further trees being planted for each person who has been forwarded the email)- The total amount of trees to be planted on you and your company's behalf by Greenfleet and Genesys
If you conduct a 1 hour Greenfleet Meeting Centre meeting as a Moderator and have 2 other participants join the online meeting*** for the full 1 hour duration, the resulting time that will be tracked is 3 hours e.g. 1 hour for the Moderator and 1 hour for each of the two participants. As such, for the meeting, Greenfleet and Genesys will plant 1 tree.
* The Greenfleet Meeting Centre and the Tree Planting Program is only currently available for those residing in Australia** Trees will only be planted for multimedia/web meetings using the Greenfleet Meeting Centre. Audio-only meetings are not eligible for this program.*** Either via Click-2-Start (have the Greenfleet Meeting Centre call out to participants, as opposed to having them dial in manually and incurring dial-in costs on their side), or via the Toll Free Number where participants won't incur costs.
